Advantages

The PNG file format is a great solution for presenting artwork within the digital medium, especially for the web, due to its higher color range and sharp details. It gives you the ability to use a transparent background. It has a small footprint, smaller file size, compared to JPEG files.

debatable tip: For possible brownie points with google... in terms of Search Engine Optimization (SEO): SMALL = GOOD in terms of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) as well... the less data that sends the more favorable your site would be to a mobile user looking for something with a lot of "bounce" traffic. Meaning clicking a lot of links in google and hitting back after loading the site for a moment or two.

Disadvantages

When used with photos, the PNG format can end up increasing the overall file size of the final project.Since the format was intended to be used for the web, printing any PNG file will always result in an unexpected or less desirable result. Loss of quality when printing on paperThe process of resizing or scaling will result in quality degradation. bad at scaling
